Good Morning, My Dear,
This came to me this AM upon awaking to the thousands of birds in the jungle outside my window. “I love you enough to…”
This can be your mantra as you progress through each day with your child. “I love you enough to… Do the Right Parent Thing.”
This means, I love you enough to put my convenience behind your needs.
I love you enough to be vigilant in my parenting job today.
I love you enough to put you first, and that doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll get your way.
I love you enough to think before I do- am I empowering you or handicapping you?
I love you enough to spend the time that you need in your school work.
I love you more than my own convenience.
I love you enough to “Do the Right Parent Thing” even if that means that you won’t like me. Your loving me or liking me is not my job. My job is preparing you the real world when you can leave home at 18.
I love you more than life. My commitment to you, before God, is to Do the Right Parent Thing, not cut corners on our short time together, evolve each day into the parent you deserve, repent to you daily, if needed, for mistakes I’ve made toward you, and show you that you mean the world to me.
I love you. Aunt Lorraine, The Parent Mentor
P. S. I’d love your feedback. Email me at lorraine@lorrainepursell.com, “Evolving Parent” in the subject line, so I don’t miss it if it goes into my bulk folder.
