Shoveling Snow While It’s Still Snowing

Howdy-

Halloween aftermath? Raging sugar highs now? That’s OK. The kids and you can recover after January 1st.

Just want to ramble and say Hi to you and hang out. We had a lovely day at a Kona beach. The water is so blue- like the color of a swimming pool that’s been painted blue on the bottom, but it’s just sand below reflecting the gorgeous, algae-free water.

What did you do this weekend? I hope you got some rest for you! This is imperative, dear. You really must take care of you. Mommy time. Daddy time. Things can wait. Your health is up there close to #1.

A fabulous homeschool family I used to visit weekly for educational therapy had a plaque on their wall. I’ve always remembered it and quote it regularly in my parent talks. Here it goes-

Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing

Is like shoveling snow while it’s still snowing.

And this family practiced this saying. The word messy didn’t even come close. But their kids were happy, self-entertained and deeply connected to each other. I’d call them a success.

Can you let it go and curl up with a book? Can you drop your obsession to get it finished and look out the window at the view? Can you stop and look deeply into your child’s eyes and feel a glow inside?

Just an invitation to keep your blood pressure low before it gets high.

All my love,

Lorraine

Well, did you…?

Good Morning, Beloved Conscious Parent,

Just checking in to see what you did yesterday for you. I mean YOU. Did you curl up with a book? Did you take a nap? Did you take a soak in the tub?

Well you have today, too, to restore yourself, so start thinkin’ and plannin’ now. Say that at 5PM you’ll take a bath. Or at 6PM you’ll go for a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood.

I talked to a couple yesterday, who seemed slightly concerned that taking time for themselves was not the best thing to do considering all the needs their kids have. Nope. Not selfish. Not indulgent. Not neglectful.

Think for a moment about what will happen to your beloved child(ren) if you get sick or croak. I mean, we all have to go, but I’m not in a hurry- I assume you’re not, either!

A colleague of mine’s tag line is, “Ignore your health, and it WILL go away.” Profound.

Rest is supreme for restoring our health and lowering cortisol levels that make us crazy busy.

“Stop the world!” says don Juan in Carlos Castaneda’s ‘Journey to Ixtlan.’ How can you stop the world? I work at this every single day. It’s insane what we think we need to do in the 21st century! Stopping the world is fast becoming a favorite hobby of mine.

I love you. I applaud you. You are a conscious parent doing everything in your power to do the right parent thing. And a big part of that is taking time for you.

Love 4Ever, Lorraine
